Todd P’s Mexico Fest, the MtyMx All Ages Festival of Art and Music, Is Fully Confirmed; Tickets on Sale Now

There had been speculation about this show going all the way back to December. Privately, Todd P began confirming it this week. And now comes the official announcement about one of the more ridiculous bits of derring-do ever attempted by a local DIY promoter: an outdoor, two-stage, three-day music festival in an abandoned drive-in movie theater “on the side of a mountain in the Sierra Madre Oriental”–which is in fucking Monterrey, Mexico, just across the border from Austin, Texas. SXSW, you are officially finished. Out of an alleged 75 bands slated to play the festival, Dan Deacon, Neon Indian, Washed Out, Thee Oh Sees, and a handful of others, including Mexican acts Los Fancy Free and Los Margaritos (Mexican acts will be one-third of the entire fest), are confirmed.

More are on the way–including, it seems very likely, Fucked Up, if not pretty much every other band scheduled to play SXSW, which wraps up the same weekend MtyMx starts: March 20th-22nd. Tickets are a hilariously affordable $30 for all three days. Camping, hotels, and a shuttle bus running three times a day across the border out of Austin are all promised. You will not get robbed by narcotraffickers or kidnapped by some dude who intends to wear your face over his face–Monterrey, as Todd’s website is at pains to point out, is “by far the wealthiest and most modern city in Mexico.” Until we’re finished with it, anyway! See you at the motherfucking movies!
