Two Oscar winners recently garnered raves for portraying faded lady Blanche Dubois in Tennessee Williams’ A Streetcar Named Desire—Rachel Weisz in London and Cate Blanchett in my homeland of Brooklyn.
But neither has gotten enough kindness from strangers to make the leap to Broadway.
Instead, it was just announced that a multi-culti cast will be assembled for a 2011 production, similar to the black Cat on a Hot Tin Roof from 2008.
So who should get the part?
I wouldn’t mind seeing Angela Bassett as the fluttery Blanche. She certainly did well against another crushing brute in What’s Love Got To Do With It.
And alongside her, let’s have:
Benjamin Bratt as Stanley
Viola Davis as Stella
and Ken Watanabe as Mitch.
Is that multi-culti enough for you?
