Several years ago at a French film luncheon, I was introduced to Anouk Aimee, the beautiful star of such classic art flicks as A Man and a Woman and 8 1/2.
I was thrilled to meet the woman because she’d made an impact on my cineastic history and she’d always seemed so glamorously aloof, as if even subtitles couldn’t begin to demystify her.
But in person she was friendly and immediate.
“I know you!” Anouk beamed. “I saw you on The E! True Hollywood Story about Liza Minnelli!”
Surreal doesn’t begin to describe it.
Fellini would have gagged.
