Une Simple Histoire

Dir. Marcel Hanoun (1958).
Hanoun was a talented filmmaker who never received the attention he deserved. His understated first feature is a spare, concentrated, formally complex work about a woman and her small daughter, who come to Paris and move from one cheap hotel to another while the woman looks for work—it remains his finest picture.
