Things to do this weekend for (mostly) free

Go kiss in Times Square this weekend and get on the billboard for Valentines day. Photographers will be taking pictures at One Times Square today and tomorrow. If you can’t get there, you can upload a picture. Fifteen minutes of fame, a little corporate sponsorship, and hey, a kiss. It sounds like a New York City Valentine for the scrapbook.

Lunar New Year celebrations are returning this weekend in Manhattan’s Chinatown, with a Flower Festival and open market on Saturday, and a Firecracker Ceremony on Sunday, complete with Lion, Dragon and Unicorn dancers and 600,000 fireworks going off in 5 minutes.

For President’s Day, there are free events all weekend at the New York Historical Society (Lincoln) and on Saturday Morris-Jumel Mansion (Washington).

The Half Moon Sword Dance troupe is going to be appearing in random places around Manhattan and Brooklyn all weekend dancing with swords. Schedule here (pdf)
