A momentary explosion of stride and swirl marks the pianist’s recent spin on Monk’s “Think of One” and, for longer than a moment, it telegraphs his interests—or, at least, some of his interests. Double-Booked spends half its program working the hip-hop angle, to somewhat meager results. But Glasper’s mercurial approach to acoustic improv becomes more eloquent each year. Guess you could consider his right hand an MC, working a flow that bends melodies and cadences to fit the beats provided by his very nimble rhythm section.
