Dir. Jean-Luc Godard (1964).
One of Godard’s most playful movies, a fresh handling of serie noire material, this is a crime caper treated as a lark, starring Anna Karina as an innocent drawn into the unlawful schemes of two best friends (Claude Brasseur and Sami Frey) who are under the influence of the countless Hollywood movies they have consumed. The criminal plot is little more than a pretext for a display of Godard’s mannerisms, an intermittently brilliant grabbag of jokes, puns and quirks.
