SCRATCHbread’s Matthew Tilden Is Looking for a New Oven


Matthew Tilden’s SCRATCHbread has earned a feverish cult following since Tilden starting baking loaves at Toby’s Public House last spring. But Tasting Table brings word that the 27-year-old recently lost his baking space and has halted production on his renowned focaccia, sourdough, and whole-wheat dried cherry-pecan bread.

That’s the bad news. The good news is that to tide business over until he can find a new oven, Tilden’s continuing to make pastries like orange-rosemary-sea salt scones, buttercream-encrusted brownies, and bourbon cherry-pecan popovers, the latter of which can be found at Cafe Grumpy.
