Akron/Family are guilty of “freak-folk” by association—a career spent on Young God on Dead Oceans Records, unshaven necks, psychedelic obsessions, tracks such as “Woodie Guthrie’s America.” But we’ll be damned if they’re not just a great, wild, woolly (and dare we say, funky) party band who can turn an avant-jam into a dance party and a stage into a riot. Maybe they’re the B-52s, if the B stood for beards. With Warpaint and Please the Trees. WEINGARTEN
