Sam Bush+Solas

The mandolin king of modern bluegrass—or Newgrass, if you must—plays the diminutive instrument in a percussive, jazzy, and yet highly emotive style while naturally reflecting its Bill Monro-vian legacy. Bush and band are powerhouse performers, too. America’s best Irish band, Solas, plays plenty of jigs and reels; they also reinterpret dark gems by Richard Thompson, Nick Drake, Bob Dylan, and others with a remarkably light touch.
