Down the Hatch, Gals: Dieters Who Drink Do Better

Whether you’re trying to stay svelte for your partner, or aiming to snag a date with your favorite eligible bartender, you might get better results with a cocktail down your gullet. A new study suggests that women who drink moderately are less likely to gain weight than those who don’t, and are generally less likely to be overweight. And here you were forgoing that 150-calorie glass of wine to be “good.”

The results may have something to do with resveratrol, a compound found in red wine, inhibiting the development of fat cells. Or maybe women who like to knock one back simply get around more (in an active and not necessarily promiscuous way).

Unfortunately for men, drinking does not help them keep off the weight. Past studies have shown that men who drink regularly tend to pack on pounds. Sorry, boys. And salud.
