By now, leader Marshall Allen (about to turn 86) has proven more than capable of carrying on the flame of their irreplaceable leader, who re-entered the cosmos back in 1993. Mind you, Allen’s not the only one keeping the faith; a number of band members are now veterans, going back to the ’60s. Their mix of big band swing, free jazz, and r&b continues to liven up many jazz festivals and would surely gladden the heart of their late leader. Not to mention that any Paliament Funkadelic fan should see where Uncle George got the idea for the intergalactic threads.
