Hey, guess what? Some people at NBC have decided that what we really need is yet another TV cooking competition, preferably one that can be sponsored by a big corporate entity. So they’re giving us America’s Next Great Restaurant, a show that will pit a bunch of contestants against one another to win the opportunity to open a fast-food chain. The show will be made possible by a hot cash infusion from Chipotle, which started life as one wee store before becoming the burrito behemoth it is today. The show will be judged by Bobby Flay, himself no stranger to sacrificing one’s dignity in front of a camera. Thrilled and enticed instead of wary and mildly revolted? Then perhaps you should audition.
