Nine years after he closed Cucina, the Park Slope restaurant he opened in 1990, Michael Ayoub is not only returning to the neighborhood, but to Cucina’s exact Fifth Avenue address to open a second location of Fornino in April. The restaurant, a spin-off of the Neopolitan-style pizzeria Ayoub opened in Williamsburg in 2004, will also have pizzas, as well as pasta, antipasti, and grilled dishes. There will also be an in-house store selling prepared foods, as well as homemade cheeses, pastas, and sauces. There will also be delivery.
The decor will be what the release describes as “1930s Brooklyn,” which in this case means exposed brick, distressed wood, black and white photos, a 40-foot marble bar, and large-filament hanging light bulbs. Ayoub, who blows glass in his spare time, will be designing glass sculptures and lighting fixtures for the restaurant, as he did for the Williamsburg Fornino.
