Here’s further proof that portion sizes have reached Biblical proportions: Some researchers have found that the size of the food depicted in paintings of the Last Supper has expanded right along with the pants size of the average American: By comparing the size of the food to the size of the heads in 52 paintings, they discovered that the main dish had grown by 69 percent, the size of the plate by 66 percent, and the bread by 23 percent. In other words, just like at the average restaurant.
The results of the study are being published in the April issue of — where else? — the International Journal of Obesity.
