No, today’s not the day you take off your pants in the subway, or dance with headphones at a silent rave. Instead, urban pranksters will gather in Union Square for the Newmindspace fifth annual New York City Pillow Fight, which coincides with World Pillow Fight Day (yes, that exists). Bring a soft pillow, wait for the signal, and start swinging away (lightly) at everyone you see. Once the feathers stop flying, donate your pillow (or what’s left of it) to Pillows for Puppies (and Kittens!), a collection for two no-kill shelters in Manhattan that will use the material to make bedding for baby animals. Then, take the subway over to the Bell House in Brooklyn, for the Official Pillow Fight Afterparty, with art installations and music by Eclectic Method, B. Rich, Udachi, and Dingokiller—because, really, the only way to celebrate pillow-fighting in public is to party it up with other pillow-fighters.
Pillow fight at 3, Union Square, Broadway and 14th Street, newmindspace.com, free, BYOP (bring your own pillow); after-party at 10, the Bell House, 149 7th Street, Brooklyn, 718-643-6510, $15
