Voice Choices

How long do you think it takes to write a novel? Five years? 10 years? How about one hour?! Fritz Donnelly and Christina Ewald, the wacky proprietors of the fun-and-games venue HiChristina!, host Creationizm, Believe in This!, a team writing session that results in a novel to be published and distributed at a future party. The creative process begins with a stroll to clear the mind and smoke plastic pipes and paper cigars (just like Hemingway used to do, we’re sure). After hammering out the basic story by consensus, everyone sits in a line and gets assigned to write five pages of the book. Once all the pages are handed in, you eat ice-cream sandwiches while two editors pull the pieces together. Lastly, you’ll hear a short dramatic rendering of the fruits of your labor. Sure, it may not win the National Book Award, but at least you’ll be able to say you had a good time.
