In the face of Republican threats, President Obama announced today that he plans to push through recess appointments for 15 of the White House nominees currently pending before the Senate. The list of nominees announced for recess appointments includes Craig Becker for the National Labor Relations Board. Becker was the subject of a letter to the White House from the entire Senate Republican conference, which considers him too pro-union, urging that he be dropped as a nominee. Becker has worked with both SEIU and the AFL-CIO.
A number of Republican senators, including ’08 presidential candidate John McCain, announced last week that that Republicans planned “no cooperation for the rest of the year” with congressional Democrats or the White House.
Proposed appointments include two nominees for the NLRB, two for Treasury, two for Commerce, two for the Office of the United States Trade Representative, two for Homeland Security, four for the EEOC, and one for the Farm Credit Administration Board. A complete list is here.
