Tonight! Caves, Penguin Prison, And High Places

This could be another day of cursing the gods, considering that both Black Rebel Motorcycle Club’s Webster Hall show and Midlake’s gig at the Bowery Ballroom are sold out, but hey, there are plenty of excellent consolatory shows. You could start a therapeutic sing-along at Glasslands Gallery with Caves’ Jacob Carey as his manic vocals, tempered by slinky guitars and unwavering drumbeats, slip ‘n’ slide from forceful pronouncements to grizzled chants. Penguin Prison, Chris Glover’s solo project, zap effervescent electronica with with jaunty vocals at Mercury Lounge. And consider yourself lucky, since High Places, the luminescent experimental band that recently relocated from Brooklyn to L.A. to much dismay, honor their latest album at Shea Stadium after their original setting, Market Hotel, was shut down.
