Sarah Jessica Parker Offers Brooklyn Museum Show to Reality Show Contestants

The eventual winner of Work of Art: The Next Great Artist, the art reality show Sarah Jessica Parker is producing for Bravo, will win $100,000 and a solo show at the Brooklyn Museum.

Co-producer Dan Cutforth told the audience at the Paley Center event introducing the show that the museum is not being reimbursed for their participation. “We just asked them. We didn’t twist any arms and we didn’t pay anyone off. We don’t have the money and we don’t have the influence.” (Video from the event is here.) Museum Deputy Director Charles Desmarais explains: “The Brooklyn Museum is always interested in experimenting for the benefit of our audience. The ways that people participate in art are changing, and the museum is deeply engaged in social networking and other types of communication. This is to me along the same lines, a small experiment but a worthwhile one.”

The regular judges will be art dealers Bill Powers and Jeanne Greenberg Rohatyn, New York Magazine critic Jerry Saltz, and “enthusiast” China Chow, who’s also the host. Guest judges include popular culture war target Andres Serrano. Fourteen artists will be competing. The first episode airs June 9.
