Dir. John Farrow (1948).
Set mostly in the headquarters of a large publishing firm, this cleverly-plotted noir stars Charles Laughton, brilliant in the role of a monomoniacal tycoon tyrant publisher, and Ray Milland as his trusted editor who has witnessed a murder. It’s a real nail-biter. In 1987, it was remade as No Way Out—which was no way an improvement.
