Vito Russo was the activist and film historian who wrote The Celluloid Closet, which pointed out gay text and subtext in movies, though most people would have preferred to keep it all buried underneath.
He brought things to the surface!
He was also a driving force behind ACT UP, fighting for attention and progress for people with AIDS like himself back in the nightmarish early days of the crisis when no one wanted to deal with the rising horror.
He helped lead us out of the darkness!
And now comes the trailer for Activist: The Times of Vito Russo, the documentary being made about him by Jeffrey Schwarz.
I’m not in the trailer, but I’m in the actual film, screaming Vito’s praises.
