The first LUCKYRICE Festival kicks off this Thursday, celebrating the tastiest foods from Asia (and Asian Americans). Opening night will feature an Asian-inspired cocktail party at The Bowery Hotel hosted by Top Chef Masters‘ Kelly Choi, with a drinks list “curated” by Albert Trummer of Apothéke. Mr. Momofuku himself, David Chang, will lead the Night Market, an outdoor bonanza of Asian-American street food. And Anita Lo (Annisa, Rickshaw Dumpling Bar) will teach a family-style dumpling-making class.
Cooking demonstrations by Fatty Crab‘s Zak Pelaccio and BaoHaus‘ Eddie Huang, as well as tea time with Pichet Ong are also sure to be hot-ticket items. If you miss the fest, check out any of the 50 New York City restaurants participating in next week’s LUCKYRICE Restaurant and Bar Week, including Pranna, Tanuki Tavern, and the newly opened Zengo.
But that’s not all on the ethnically themed food fest calendar…
Once you’ve gone East, go South for the Gourmet Latino Festival, landing at the Astor Center June 4 through the 12th. Chefs involved include Aarón Sánchez of Paladar and Centrico, Natalia Machado of Industria Argentina and Azul Bistro, as well as mixologist Junior Merino. it will feature a daytime tasting event called, “A Day in Latin America” and an evening fiesta called, “Live the Spirit of Carnival.” Tickets are on sale now, although events are still being added to the calendar. We predict the social wheels will be greased with plenty of Pisco, caçhaca, and tequila. ¿Por qué no?
