Bowl cuts, striped shirts, reverb rivers, and pop melodies filtered through hazy sunlight. Chapterhouse only managed two full-lengths, a few singles, and a catch-all comp, but the Reading, UK group’s sound contributed mightily to the definition of what shoegaze became. Dormant for years—its members have gone on to perform with Mojave 3, among other projects—the band recently reuninted for a series of shows in Europe, Japan, and the US. The Bell House bills these as their last-ever East Coast shows. Chapterhouse is joined by German producer Ulrich Schnauss, whose recent albums for Domino explored shoegaze from an intriguingly spaced-out, electronic point of view.
