It’s been awhile since a big, blowsy food festival descended upon the city and its environs, but rest assured that the gaping void left in the wake of last fall’s New York Wine & Food Festival will soon be filled like so many Peter Pan jelly doughnuts.
From October 7-10, the New York Wine & Food Festival will return. In addition to featuring the usual Food Network suspects, it will also trot out the likes of Heston Blumenthal, Madhur Jaffrey, and noted kitchen savant Trisha Yearwood.
And while that festival is gestating, the gods of commerce and carnage will give us another: on June 13, the Great American Food & Music Fest will arrive at Meadowlands.
Perhaps taking a page from the Brooklyn Bowl, the organizers have rounded up yet more cheflebutantes like Duff Goldman, Paula Deen, and Tom Colicchio, smooshed them together with acts like Buckwheat Zydeco and this dude, and declared it a culinary happening. There aren’t too many thing that could make the New York Wine & Food Festival seem like a restrained and tasteful event, but the specter of Food Network stalwarts taking the stage at Meadlowlands like so many horsemen of the apocalypse — well, that certainly comes close.
