The operative word here is “honor.” Ring of Honor Wrestling sets itself above the sport’s other promotional groups with its code—when the organization was founded in 2002, their stated purpose was to give matches the sense of dignity and order found in Japanese wrestling. But can the Code survive the tension when the ROH guys meet the “heels” (bad guys who don’t give a hoot for civilized conduct and will do anything to win)? In the movie The Wrestler, the bout between Mickey Rourke’s Randy “The Ram” Robinson and the Ayatollah was depicted as a Ring of Honor match, and several ROH wrestlers appeared in the film. That should give you an idea of what to expect. Tonight’s event features headliner Roderick Strong competing for the ROH World Title, World Tag Team Championship (the Kings of Wrestling vs. the Motor City Machine Guns), and the Shimmer Dream Match (Amazing Kong vs. Sara Del Rey). Just bring a handkerchief to wipe the “blood” off your face.
