HAPPILY BROKEN

We Americans have such wonderfully pacific neighbors to the north; give Canada a few weeks of winter sports, a midlevel Thermals song, and claim of one or two Baywatch actresses, and they’re perfectly content. And we are deeply fortunate for this, because if the Canucks ever chose to invade, all they’d need is one or two more Broken Social Scenes to completely overwhelm our entire military. The Toronto-based rock collective boasts a revolving roster that often stretches to more than 20 simultaneous members (always helmed by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning); they regrouped to release last week’s sumptuous Forgiveness Rock Record, and now presumably cross the border to survey us for possible domination, aurally and otherwise.
