Did you know that May is National Hamburger Month? The folks in the White Castle marketing department sure do! Although PETA would argue that death never takes a holiday, White Castle has chosen to commemorate it by celebrating America’s sense of smell.
Banking on the assumption that we like our homes to give off the lingering aroma of fast food, the company has introduced the White Castle scented candle. Created in collaboration with Laura Slatkin, the lady responsible for perfuming many a boudoir with periwinkle, jasmine, and freesia kiwi, the candle, according to the ad copy, gives off “the steam-grilled-on-a-bed-of-onions scent of America’s first fast-food hamburger.”
Somewhat ingeniously, wax and wick are contained in a ceramic holder designed to resemble the slider’s cardboard sleeve. It looks like the perfect gift for the stoner in your life, though it’s probably not the best idea for households with dogs or easily impressionable children. Net proceeds of the $10 candle benefit Autism Speaks, which gives off a less dodgy aroma than that of buying buckets of KFC to fight breast cancer.
