What good is a happy hour if your stomach isn’t sufficiently lined for you to truly get your money’s worth? L’Asso has you covered from Monday to Thursday with a 4-7 p.m. happy hour special of two slices of pizza margherita plus one glass of house red wine or one of a rotating cast of craft beers on tap, all for the bargain-basement price of $6.
You can tell by the rainbow of Vespas parked outside that upon entering the bar there will be Europeans (and Euro-friendly Americans) of varying degrees of hip: dapper young men and effortlessly hot boho-chic women and gender-ambiguous waifs with architectural haircuts. The inside is plain: square tables, often requiring a matchbook to fix the teetering, and hard-backed chairs, brightened only by the art on the walls. The outside is professionally graffito-tagged with portraits of Alfred Hitchcock and Leonard Nimoy (the latter sporting blue eyeshadow and a blonde Marilyn Monroe wig). But what’s the pizza like, you ask? The marguerita is Neapolitan in style, but less sloppy than many of the versions you get these days. And the wine, even the house, is always rather drinkable. On a recent visit, there was Lagunitas IPA, Southampton Double White, and Six Point’s Gorilla Warfare Coffee Porter on tap. Surely, one of the better ways to spoil your dinner.
