Savoy and Back Forty
May 10 & 11
Forget ramps. In Catalonia, the seasonal onion that gets everyone excited is the calçot. Sample grilled calçots and lamb chops, botifarra sausage, and crema Catalana for dessert tonight at Savoy and tomorrow at Back Forty. Dishes will be paired with rosé poured from traditional porrons, and live Flamenco music. The cost is $70 per person for Savoy’s event and $65 for Back Forty’s.
Winemaker’s Feast with Tony Coturri
Tuesday, May 11 at 7 p.m.
What better way to enjoy a nose-to-tail feast of suckling pig than with a selection of American-made organic and sustainable wines? Join winemaker Tony Coturri for this Organic Wine Journal-sponsored event, featuring his 2002 Lost Creek Pinot Noir, 2005 Testa Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, 2008 Testa Vineyards Carignane, and 2006 Estate Zinfandel, alongside Chef Bobby Hellen’s porky fare. A bargain at $75 per person.
A Taste of Home: Celebrity Chef Tasting and Benefit
Housing Works Used Bookstore Café
Thursday, May 13 at 7 p.m.
Support New York’s favorite non-profit used bookstore by tasting your way through dishes by Public and Double Crown’s Brad Farmerie, Gramercy Tavern’s Michael Anthony, Hill Country Barbecue’s Elizabeth Karmel, and Butter’s Alexandra Guarnaschelli. Top Chef‘s Gail Simmons will host a raffle of culinary prizes, while Whole Foods provides the beer and Intelligentsia keeps everyone duly caffeinated. Tickets are $60 and all proceeds benefit homeless New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.
