Alan Ferber Nonet

The music on the new Chamber Songs is pliable indeed—the trombonist’s nonet connects with a string section of the same size for an unholy blend of written and improvised essays. Some of them provide the sparkle of swaggering romps, others color within the lines and reiterate the script at hand. Each is done with the kind of attention to detail that gives the music a thorough feel and offers yet another angle when it comes to defining “third stream” music.
