Breaking into showbiz is never easy, but the delicious downtown entertainer Erin Markey got her start in stage performance when she snagged a position as a staffer at Déjà Vu Showgirls and Love Boutique in Ypsilanti, Michigan. In Puppy Love: A Stripper’s Tale, she recounts her entrance into live theater via lap dances in this slightly fictionalized solo musical running as part of the soloNOVA Festival. And, with the know-how of any good working girl, Markey brings plenty of pageantry to the stage: Her all-star creative team includes band member Becca Blackwell, whose group Inner Princess played the recent Mr. Transman Pageant; choreographer Adolpho Blaire, who lent his talents to the Ms. Fag Hag Pageant; and costumer Sequinette, a winner of the Miss Lez Pageant.
