A happy hour can be a fleeting thing. Two measly hours, 120 brief minutes of discounted bibulous enjoyment before you’re left scrambling to chug that last marked-down drink before the price shoots back up to prime-time levels. Luckily, at Donnybrook, you can take your time. Happy hour is more like happy day at this Lower East Side pub: Monday to Friday, 12-8 p.m., a full workday’s worth of drink specials to satisfy your thirst and budget. And, starting today, the bar has made the deal even sweeter. In addition to $3 domestic beers, $5 well drinks, and cocktails reduced from $12 to $8, you can now get a 20-ounce imperial-sized pint of Guinness — or any draft — for $4 (down from $5).
The scene …
The locals may lament the loss of Lotus Lounge, but quality pints, decent grub, and footy matches on TV help lessen the blow. Donnybrook may have upped the frat-boy quotient of the neighborhood, but the lads in question are the kind you’ll take any day over the unruly throngs of Orchard Street. The odd backwards baseball cap is a reasonable price to pay for a well-poured ($4!) pint of Guinness. Go team.
