Tonight, Julianna Barwick mimics the cries of weeping dolphins and angels with Bieber Fever at Le Poisson Rouge, her latest vocal-loop monastery. For the show’s after-party, venture out to Monster Island Basement, where she’s spinning her first DJ set alongside DIY king Todd P and Pitchfork founder Ryan Schreiber, a/k/a Ravves (hardy har har). Supplying the party’s live music are damaged beat-rousers Blissed Out. Elsewhere, a pair of good-causes-if-your-wallet-agrees concerts: the wonderfully disparate crew of Lou Reed, Sonic Youth, and Moby at the Hiro Ballroom‘s Benefit Concert for Anthology Film Archives, and grizzled rock ‘n’ rollers the Black Keys at a Housing Works fundraiser. Ending the evening at Mercury Lounge are Apollo Sunshine, the bearded embracers of “everything from dark paranoia to jubilant exultation at life’s pungent pageant.” In other words, the highs and lows of a magic-mushroom trip with the inevitable celebration of Mother Earth in between.
