Here’s further proof that there’s almost nothing that can’t be paid for in plastic: the Street Vendor Project is in the process of equipping food carts with credit card machines. According to myfoxny.com, vendors throughout Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx will get the machines, and if it’s successful, the program will expand to include more carts. The machines will be offered free of charge, though vendors will have to pay transaction fees. And given that companies typically charge anywhere from 1 to 15 percent for each transaction, that could potentially take a bit of a bite out of street meat sales.
