Jay Farrar

After serving as Jeff Tweedy’s foil in his pre-Wilco band Uncle Tupelo, songwriter Jay Farrar launched Son Volt, which spent several years wallpapering over alt-country with modern rock guitar flourishes. They peaked with the superlative Wide Swing Tremolo and went on extended hiatus. Farrar’s solo set tonight will likely also contain songs he put out under his own name in the early ’00s, as well as more recent material such as the Kerouac bits he set to music with Ben Gibbard and tunes from the reanimated Son Volt’s tepid loogie American Central Dust. With Richard Buckner.
