Moritz von Oswald’s early work as Maurizio and in 2MB and 3MB (with the Orb’s Thomas Fehlmann) and in founding the Basic Channel duo/label (with Mark Ernestus) set the stage for Berlin minimalism and the moodier end of dubstep. His and Ernestus’s reggae-based releases as Rhythm & Sound are even more compelling. Along with Sasu Ripatti (a/k/a Vladislav Delay and Uusitalo, and for Luomo’s glitch-house) and Max Loderbauer (of nsi and Sun Electric), he now performs in an improvisational trio—a far more engaging act than those wonky words may imply. With Keith Fullerton Whitman, Bora Yoon, and Eric Cloutier.
