Restaurants and bars, they come and they go. Here are a few making their debuts and bowing out this week.
Bar Blanc Bistro (formerly just Bar Blanc) tried to reinvent itself with a modified name and new chef last year. Now it has announced it has closed and Sebastian Zijp has gone, but promises to reopen in the fall “with a new name, chef, design, and menu.”
Tapas bar Taberna has opened on the Upper West Side with Jennifer Cole at the helm. Expect small bites like marinated trout and cava-poached oysters at this 50-seater.
Lina Frey, a French bistro, is opening on East Houston. The team behind it, which ran the now-defunct Boucarou, will turn out Alsatian-inspired dishes.
Caffetteria SoHo is a new venture from two former Blue Bottle Coffee employees from the West Coast. The café will use Blue Bottle beans for iced coffees and espressos from the country’s first mechanical-paddle GB5 La Marzocco machine.
5 Burro Café in Forest Hills now has a Cobble Hill outpost. The sister location of the 20-year-old Tex-Mex cantina serves the same menu of tacos, fajitas, and nachos.
Totto Ramen, from the owners of Yakitori Totto, has debuted in Hell’s Kitchen. The ramen comes topped with two slices of fatty pork cheek, seared before your eyes.
