There aren’t exactly any earth-shattering surprises here. A slice of Romano’s Macaroni Grill’s smothered chocolate cake may have 1,580 calories, but the words “smothered,” “chocolate,” and “cake” aren’t exactly synonymous with “diet,” “health,” and “weight loss.” And while Applebee’s chocolate chip cookie sundae contains 1,660 calories, so does pretty much everything else at Applebee’s. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that the Cheesecake Factory is nowhere to be found on the list.
Aside from being linked by their purported ability to kill or at least fatten the American populace, the offenders share a common denominator in chocolate, which is featured in 28 of the 40 desserts. That, again, isn’t much of a surprise, and sadly, neither is the fact that chain restaurants keep serving dishes whose caloric content could sustain an elephant.
