Grilling Secrets of a Steakhouse Butcher

Learn how to grill kosher with chef-owner Jose Meirelles, executive chef Mark Hennessy, and butcher Dominique Courbe. They’ll offer up a primer on the various cuts, from prime rib to hanger, each of which is handled differently over an open flame. The class ($125, including wine) will be held in the restaurant’s new second-floor private dining room and kitchen, as part of a new educational series at the restaurant.

From Extremadura to Asturias and the Mesetas of Castilla La Mancha to the mountains of central Portugal, the Iberian Peninsula is a wine and cheese pairer’s (wet?) dream. For $75, let Patel enlighten you on the diverse styles of the crisp, often bracingly acidic Albariño grape and its inherent food friendliness. (Spoiler: It pairs with more than just Manchego.)

For the eighth year in a row, the country’s top pitmasters — including Michael Rodriguez of the Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, Texas, Skip Steele of Pappy’s Smokehouse in St. Louis, and New York’s own John Stage of Dinosaur Bar-B-Que — will take to the park to cook up their famous grub for some 100,000 barbecue buffs at the bargain price of just $8 per plate. Musical guests the Derailers and Nick Curran & the Lowlifes will provide the soundtrack.
