A Taste of Down Under on the Upper West Side


The Aussie restaurant the Sunburnt Cow is such a hit on Avenue C that they recently opened a branch at 226 W. 79th Street.

I managed to grab some grub there en route to a nearby serving of Banana Shpeel, and it turns out it’s cute, mates.

Surrounded by images of the outback and served by a bona fide Australian waitress, not a Central Casting actress trying out accents, you enjoy the tasty surf-and-turf special, pulled-lamb salad, and Australian meringue-based dessert called Pavlova, which is worth pirouetting for.

Co-owner Heathe St. Clair and his staff are charmers, so if you’re ever uptown looking for something down under, go have a Cow.
