Giuseppina’s awning went up last fall, and back in February, Eater reported that the Department of Buildings had delayed the restaurant’s opening about a month. But there she sat quietly all winter, newspaper obscuring the windows.
The pizzeria is owned by Chris Iacono, the brother of Lucali pizzaiolo Mark. After no obvious movement toward opening lo these many months, the paper has finally come off the windows, and the interior looks finished. A brick wood-burning oven occupies the back wall behind a marble bar. The rest of the small room is taken up by simple wooden tables and chairs. The phone number listed for the restaurant is not yet being answered, and all was quiet inside this Saturday afternoon.
Just a block away, Toby’s Public House — which will be Giuseppina’s nearest competitor — was packed with World Cup revelers.
