First salmonella in the frozen foods aisle, and now undercooked beef in cans of squishy pasta: The Campbell Soup Co. is recalling 15 million pounds of SpaghettiOs with meatballs thanks to a malfunctioning cooker in its Paris, Texas, plant that failed to thoroughly cook the meat. The thing apparently started acting up way back in 2008: The recall includes cans that were manufactured from December of that year to the present, and includes SpaghettiOs with Meatballs, SpaghettiOs A to Z Meatballs, and SpaghettiOs Fun Shapes With Meatballs.
Fortunately, the USDA hasn’t reported any illnesses associated with the products. Also fortunate: The continued existence of the above commercial, which demonstrates the staggering power SpaghettiOs exercised over both children and dogs of the ’80s, and also stars Jaleel White, who would later become known to the world as Steve Urkel.
