Opening this year’s Lincoln Center Festival in a blaze of samurai-sword blades, acclaimed Japanese theater director Yukio Ninagawa returns to the fest with the Noh-inspired legend Musashi, a tale of two warriors on the hunt for revenge. Take note, ladies: Also returning is 28-year-old Japanese heartthrob Tatsuya Fujiwara, whom Variety called “lithe and luscious” in the 2005 sold-out Lincoln Center Festival performances of Ninagawa’s Modern Noh Plays. This is just the start of a nearly-three-week program that includes 45 performances by talents from a dozen countries. Test your theatergoing stamina on July 10 and 11 when The Demons, adapted from Dostoyevsky’s novel by director Peter Stein, gets a 12-hour marathon staging on Governors Island.
