Anthony Mann’s second Western is something like the anti-Searchers: Shoshone warrior (Robert Taylor in a role made for John Garfield) returns home to Wyoming a decorated Civil War vet of the Civil War to become a successful cattle rancher, encountering naught but prejudice and exploitation and winds up waging a hopeless war against his colonialist oppressors.
