“What do you do if you write a song that accidentally sounds a lot like a song that is already a song by Phil Collins??” This was posited urgently on Tanlines’ Twitter account a few weeks ago but, fortunately, seems unfounded; unless the Genesis gent has cooked up the same jovial synths, tropicalia drums, and merrily temporal lyrics of their hit “Real Life,” the Brooklyn duo are still in a league of their own. This year’s electro/post-rock EP Settings was just as lively, through and through—a prodigal debut befitting the Young Turks label name. With Delorean and Glasser.
