Who says corporate rock is dead? El Insituto Mexicano de Sonido is the brainchild of Mexico City-based DJ and producer Camilo Lara, who also happens to be president of EMI Mexico. His sound—a raucous pastiche of cumbia, tropicalia, and myriad dance beats—is soulless but fun. La Bien Querida, a smooth chemical chain reaction combining Ana Fernández-Villaverde’s sprightly pop and producer/multiinstrumentalist David Rodriguez’s many bright ideas, should be the highlight of this evening-long showcase that also includes Isa GT, Los Rakas, Yotuel (from Orishas), Moderatto, and Los Tres.
