She’s a perfect example of a pianist who turns groove music into a head trip. Deep thoughts are always spilling from the keyboard, where agitation has long been a useful tool. This itchy approach helps her investigate forebears on a killer new solo disc, and gives tap titan Maurice Chestnut a bed of coals to dance on during a new trio session. He’s part of this gig, and his animation is sure to juice the music’s many rhythmic elements.
