The through-line of this season’s festival is vocalists. From Carol Sloane singing nuggets of the silver screen to Sandy Stewart updating Jerome Kern, there will be lots of lyrics in the air. Freddy Cole’s murmured ballads, Maucha Adnet’s nod to her native Brazil, Mary Stallings slipping on Billie Holiday’s gardenia—curator Bill Charlap has been thoughtful about his 2010 choices. He’s also spun his Rolodex and built a handful of wise, mid-sized ensembles. His teams are comprised of the most graceful mainstreamers in town, meaning thoughtful swing is front and center. Don’t miss the smooch to tenor titan Jimmy Heath.
