Mali guitar legend Ali Farka Touré’s son has wisely chosen to adapt his dad’s Saharan blues guitar style into a Western-influenced instrument of raw electric power, and he has a terrific new live album. As the galvanizing lead guitarist in what, for all its traditional melodies and rhythms, is essentially a bassless rock band (complete with a real rock drummer), Touré extends songs from his debut album and his father’s repertoire into vamping jams that illuminate the family sound’s flashpoint connection to Delta blues.
